bullet Terry Fox 1958-1981 invested as a Companion of the Order of Canada. The one-legged cancer victim whose marathon run across Canada raised millions of dollars for cancer research is the youngest so honored.
bullet January 18th, Pink Floyd's "The Wall" hits #1. We watched at a theatre on Hasting street, in East Vancouver. 
bullet The Empire Strikes back is released in theaters in the USA.  The second in the middle Trilogy series.
bullet Mt. St. Helens erupts in Washington State, killing 26 people and causing $2.7 billion in damagehelens.gif (19671 bytes)
bullet August 17th Azaria Chamberlain disappears from a campsite near Ayers Rock.  The Dingo becomes inappropriately famous!
bullet Upon returning from a recording session, Ex-Beatle, John Lennon, is shot five times outside of his Manhattan apartment. He dies minutes later from a massive loss of blood. Less than three weeks later, his song, (Just Like) Starting Over spends five weeks at the top of the Billboard Pop Chart.
bullet August 23, Toronto Ontario - The Talking Heads make their live debut as a nine-piece band (up to now a quartet) at the Heat wave Festival.

In August Sydney's counter culture AM radio station 2JJ AM becomes 2JJJ FM ( this I do remember) continuing the JJ controversy by playing as its first track the then-banned Skyhooks track 'You Just Like Me 'Cause I'm Good in Bed'  this same track was 2JJ's first!
