bullet PanAm Flight 103 jumbo jet crashes onto Lockerbie Scotland killing all on board.  DECEMBER 21, Libyan terrorists planted a bomb with a barometric timer on Pan Am 103, bound from London to New York City. When the plane blew up, all 278 people on board and 11 on the ground in Lockerbie, Scotland, were killed. The timer was set to explode at a certain altitude, by which time the 747 was expected to be over deep water. A 25-minute delay at takeoff from London and headwinds of more than 100 mph had placed the aircraft over Lockerbie — instead of the Irish Sea. As a result, the wreckage was scattered over 845 square miles. Repeated sweeps of the Scottish landscape recovered minute fragments of the plane. The telltale piece of the timer that led to the identification of the Libyan terrorists was found imbedded in a shirt that had been packed in the suitcase that contained the bomb.  The terrorist would finally come to trial on 2000

It would be nice to travel if you knew where you were going and where you would live at the end or do we ever know, do we ever live where we live, we’re always in other places, lost, like sheep.

Janet Frame (b. 1924), New Zealand novelist, poet. You Are Now Entering the Human Heart, "The Day of the Sheep" (1983).
